Viviane Fongaro Botosso
A pharmacist with a degree from the University of São Paulo (USP), holding a master's and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the same institution, specialized in the study of microorganisms, having completed postdoctoral research at the prominent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States. Viviane Fongaro Botosso is one of Brazil's leading names in virology and has become an important voice against misinformation.
Botosso is currently director of the Virology Laboratory at Instituto Butantan, also serving as a professor in graduate courses at the Higher Education School of Instituto Butantan (Esib). Her leadership and teaching experience contributed to her gaining prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, working as a science communicator in the press during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mpox outbreak (then known as monkeypox) that frightened the world in 2022, and seasonal influenza epidemics as well as avian influenza panzootics.
A researcher at CeRDI since the center's creation in 2021, Dr. Viviane Botosso is dedicated to studying the production of viral vaccines. Her specialty is the development and refinement of analytical methodologies, *in vivo* and *in vitro*, for evaluating vaccine prototypes, virus isolation methods, and laboratory diagnostic methods. She is also dedicated to investigating viruses with the potential to cause a new pandemic and spreading information about prevention methods.
